Best Supermarkets in Costa Teguise for Self-Catering
Self-catering is the reason a lot of guests choose a villa over a hotel in the first place. The pool is communal, but the kitchen, the patio table and the supermarket run are entirely yours. Costa Teguise is well set up for it: four supermarkets and a weekly produce market, all within ten minutes on foot of Casa Los Alisios, plus a couple of bigger options a short drive away.
This is the guide we send to guests at Casa Los Alisios when they ask where to do the first shop, where to buy fresh fish or local cheese, and which day to time around the agricultural market. We live in Costa Teguise and walk these same shops ourselves.
For the wider picture of how the resort works as a base for a longer stay, see our Costa Teguise for digital nomads guide and the Workation Lanzarote overview. If you are travelling with kids, the things to do in Costa Teguise with kids post pairs well with this one.
Where the supermarkets actually are
Costa Teguise is small enough that the main supermarkets sit within a few hundred metres of each other along Av. de las Palmeras and Av. Islas Canarias, with the new Lidl tucked behind the medical centre. The map below shows the cluster around the villa.

Spar Las Palmeras: closest, open daily, good for last-minute runs
Address: Avda. las Palmeras 7, C.C. Teguise Green. Open Monday to Sunday, 08:00 to 22:00. Phone 828 08 22 15.
Spar is the supermarket we point guests at on arrival. It is a 3 minute walk from the villa across Av. de las Palmeras, sits inside the small Teguise Green commercial centre, and stocks the kind of mid-size shop you need to top up the fridge: bread, milk, ham, cheese, fruit, beer, wine, basic toiletries. Prices are above Lidl on packaged goods but the convenience is hard to beat for a quick run.
The wine aisle is more local than you would expect from a resort Spar. There is a respectable selection of Lanzarote bottles from El Grifo, Bodegas Rubicón, Stratvs and La Geria, plus Tenerife and Gran Canaria producers. If you want one specific bottle and Spar does not have it, drive 20 minutes to La Geria and buy it from the bodega.

Lidl Costa Teguise: newest, biggest, cheapest weekly shop
Address: Calle Las Piteras 201B. Open Monday to Sunday, 08:30 to 22:00.
Lidl opened on 22 August 2025 and is the first large discount supermarket Costa Teguise has ever had. The store is around 1,700 m² with a car park of roughly 150 spaces and four EV charging points, sat behind the medical centre and a couple of minutes from the secondary school. From the villa it is a 5 minute walk down Av. de las Palmeras.
For a weekly shop this is now the obvious choice. Prices on packaged goods, dairy, frozen and own-brand groceries are 15 to 30 percent below the resort supermarkets we used to send guests to, and the bakery counter at the front replaces a separate panadería trip. The famous central aisle of weekly non-food specials lands in Costa Teguise too, so you can finish a grocery run with a paddling pool, a cordless drill or thermal underwear depending on the week.
The trade-off is that Lidl skews mainland European on the shelves: lots of German bakery, less local Canarian product than Hiperdino or the Tuesday market. Treat Lidl as the volume shop and pick up Canarian wine, gofio and queso de cabra somewhere else.

Hiperdino and SuperDino: the Canarian chains
Address (Hiperdino): Avenida Islas Canarias s/n. Mon to Sat 08:00 to 22:00, Sun 09:00 to 22:00. Phone +34 928 82 68 82.
Address (SuperDino): Avenida Islas Canarias, corner of C/ Los Dragos, Urb. Las Piteras. Mon to Sat 08:00 to 22:00, Sun 09:00 to 22:00. Free WiFi and home delivery.
Both are part of the DinoSol group, the Canary Islands’ largest supermarket chain, and both sit on Avenida Islas Canarias about a 10 minute walk from the villa, on the way down to Las Cucharas beach. Hiperdino is the bigger of the two and the one to visit if you want the broadest Canarian range: queso majorero from Fuerteventura, queso de cabra from Lanzarote, gofio, mojo rojo and verde, papas bonitas for papas arrugadas, the full local wine list. SuperDino is smaller, more like a corner shop, and useful if you happen to be heading that way.
If you only do one Canarian shop the whole holiday, do it here. Hiperdino is also where most people from the resort buy fish, since the counter rotates with what came in that morning from Arrecife.

The Tuesday agricultural market at Pueblo Marinero
Pueblo Marinero square. Every Tuesday, 09:00 to 14:00.
This is the one that surprises most guests. Pueblo Marinero, the small César Manrique-designed plaza near the seafront, has a craft and souvenir market on Wednesday and Friday evenings that gets all the attention. The Tuesday morning market is a different thing: agricultural producers and small Canarian food makers, selling organic fruit and vegetables, queso de cabra, Lanzarote wine, honey, homemade jams, artisan baked goods and liqueurs. Stalls are set under the canopies in the square, prices are reasonable, and quality is well above what reaches the resort supermarkets.

If you are at the villa for a week and want to taste actual Lanzarote rather than what gets imported into the supermarkets, time at least one shop around Tuesday morning. It is also a 30 minute walk along the promenade if you want to make a morning of it, with a coffee on a Pueblo Marinero terrace afterwards.

What Costa Teguise does not have, and where to drive
There is no Mercadona, no Aldi and no big-format Carrefour in Costa Teguise. If you are stocking up for a long stay, want a specific Mercadona own-brand product, or are filling a cooler box for a road trip, the closest options are a 10 to 15 minute drive away:
- Mercadona Arrecife is the one guests ask about most. Drive past Lidl towards Arrecife, take the LZ-14, and the entrance is signposted on the right after the Valterra roundabout. Cheaper than the resort supermarkets, very large fresh produce section, the famous Hacendado own brand.
- Mercadona Playa Honda is a similar size and slightly closer to the airport, useful if you are driving down to pick up an arrival.
- Sunday morning at Teguise Sunday market is a 10 minute drive inland and is the largest open-air market in the Canaries. It is a craft and food hybrid: ceramics, leather and souvenirs alongside Canarian wines, cheeses, honey and jams. Worth the trip even if you have already done the Tuesday market.
A few practical notes for self-catering at Casa Los Alisios
The Lanzarote tap water is hard. The villa runs on the same municipal supply as the rest of Costa Teguise and is fine for showering and washing up, but most guests buy 5L garrafones of bottled water for drinking and coffee, the same as locals. All four supermarkets sell them, and Lidl tends to be cheapest.
Sundays are not the dead day they are on the Spanish mainland. Spar, Lidl, Hiperdino and SuperDino all open seven days a week. Public holidays are different though: 1 May, 15 August and 25 December all see most supermarkets closed or on reduced hours, so check ahead if your stay overlaps one of those.
If you are running a workation week and want a fast first-day shop, the easiest sequence is to land at ACE, drive 15 minutes to the villa, drop bags, and walk to Lidl for the bulk shop and Spar for whatever Lidl was missing. The full villa office spec, the wifi setup and how the kitchen and workspace are arranged are in our workation villa guide and the broader Workation Lanzarote overview.
